Answer
The Touch Sensor Module does not currently support shape recognition. The sensor only scans the entire area from one direction, which would make it hard to recognize non-basic shapes. The sensor module is mainly created as a touch interface, which is why it interpret all objects and shapes as circles to imitate fingers.
With that said, it is of course possible to create a program that would recognize certain patterns of basic shapes since the sensor module scans the 2D surface.
